Silk Screen vs Heat Transfer: Which Print to Specify on a Baby Bottle

Silk screen and heat transfer are the two logo methods AppleBear Baby uses on baby bottles. Screen printing uses a plate for each solid color and suits simple logos. Heat transfer uses a film and suits multi-color or gradient artwork. Neither one is a new bottle mold. Box and gift-set printing is a separate job, sent to a packing printer. Silk screen: one plate per solid color Silk screen pushes ink through a mesh plate onto the bottle. Each solid color normally needs its own plate. A one-color or two-color logo — a wordmark, a simple icon, a stock cartoon in flat color — is the usual screen job. The plate is made after you approve the mockup. A color change or a new logo is a new plate, not a new bottle tool. Fine gradients and photo-style artwork do not sit well on a screen plate, because the mesh is built for solid areas. Heat transfer: film for many colors and gradients Heat transfer prints the artwork on a film first, then presses that film onto the bottle with heat. The whole picture transfers in one pass, so several colors, soft blends, and gradient cartoons stay in register. The setup is a film, not a stack of color plates. A new picture is a new film. Placement still has to match the bottle shape: a handle, a curve, or a narrow print window can limit how large the film can be. Confirm the print area on the mockup before the film is made. Write heat transfer when the file is a full cartoon, a gradient, or more colors than a simple plate stack should carry. If you are not sure, send the artwork and say “recommend the method.” We will mark screen or tran
